2022 NFL rookies who can have a big performance in week three

Dameon Pierce, Houston Texans

The Houston Texans square off against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, who are, by far, the worst defense against the run in 2022.  They’ve allowed 379 rushing yards through two games, or an average of 189.5 yards per contest.  These are monumentally awful numbers, and Dameon Pierce, perhaps the best of the rookie running backs so far, should have every opportunity to take advantage.

Pierce was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.  He went to college at Florida and is an absolute bowling ball, standing 5’10” and weighing 215 pounds.  He’s not the fastest, and he doesn’t have to be.  Pierce’s toughness and vision have helped him gain 102 rushing yards on 26 carries so far in his NFL career.

His yards per carry average hasn’t been good, but he has an excellent chance on Sunday to take advantage of a Bears’ defense that clearly does not do well against running backs.  Couple that with Davis Mills struggling a bit this season, and it’s easy to see how the Texans could rely on their running game in this one.
