42. . . . Trey Lance. 4. player

I have decided to mention & rank Trey Lance, even though he’s only started 4 games. Because even through only 4 games I would rather take a chance on Lance than either of the 2 QBs above. Is Lance still largely an unknown? Absolutely, but he has shown flashes of ability that Mills simply doesn’t possess as an athlete, and he hasn’t nuked his career a la Zach Wilson.

Brock Purdy’s success in this offense, though good for San Francisco fans, does put more pressure on Lance to succeed. After all, if Mr. Irrelevant can come in as a rookie and do what he’s done, then surely Trey Lance, after sitting for 2 seasons now, can be successful, right?

Thankfully Trey has a coach with a history of making quarterbacks have career seasons. After 2 NFL seasons, Trey Lance ends up in 4th place from the 2021 NFL Draft, with an inside lane to advance moving forward.
