For the first time in over 15 years, the Pittsburgh Steelers were expected to have a new starting quarterback in 2022 after Ben Rothlisberger retired last offseason. The Steelers believed they found their replacement when they drafted Kenny Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, who would end up being the only quarterback selected in the first round.

After this season, the Steelers should feel confident that they got a quarterback they can win with and the focus for the front office should be to build around him. They will have the chance to do that in the NFL Draft but prior to that, they will be looking to improve their roster in free agency.

The Steelers will need to make some moves prior to the start of free agency to create some cap space but if they can, these are four free agents that the Pittsburgh Steelers could sign that would change how they approach the NFL Draft.

Terrell Edmunds

Let’s begin the list with a player who has been with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the entirety of his career to this point in safety Terrell Edmunds. He was the 28th overall pick by the Steelers in 2018 and stepped in as the starter almost immediately in his rookie season.

Edmunds would go on to start 75 games over the past five seasons and in total has 410 total tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, five interceptions, and 26 passes defended.

In addition to Edmunds, the Steelers also have Damontae Kazee set to be a free agent, who appeared in nine games and started four this past season. If they are not able to bring back one or both, safety will be a position they look to address in the NFL Draft.

However, the Steelers may have a good chance to re-sign their starting safety if they are able to sign this next player.
