Ranking the five best quarterback free agents in 2023

4. Daniel Jones, New York Giants

Daniel Jones will likely never be a great passer, but he had a career year with the Giants and Brian Daboll.  Jones’ price tag is apparently in the range of $35-$37 million per season, which would be a massive overpay for a low-end starter.

It would be cool to see a QB middle class, but it doesn’t look like that’ll happen.  Either way, Daniel Jones played well enough at quarterback to get the Giants into the playoffs and actually won a playoff game, so maybe there is something there.

3. Gardner Minshew

Gardner Minshew should be a starter somewhere, and I am convinced of it.  Most recently, he’s been the backup with the Philadelphia Eagles, but his numbers indicate he should not be a backup.

For his career, Minshew has completed 62.8% of his passes for 6,632 yards, 44 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.  This is good for a 93.1 passer rating.

Maybe I’m wrong that Minshew should be a starter.  Maybe he is a very high quality backup, but he’s got a 32 game sample size, so it’s not like this is a lightning in a bottle type of deal.

A team who may draft a quarterback in 2023 would benefit from signing Minshew to be a one year bridge.
