Predicting the AFC starting QBs for the 2023 season – AFC South

Jacksonville Jaguars – Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence turned into one of the most efficient QBs in the NFL this year under Doug Pederson and won a playoff game.  The Jaguars have their guy and are set for the next 12 years.  Good for that franchise.

Indianapolis Colts – Teddy Bridgewater

So, here’s what I think happens.  I think the Colts, with their fourth overall pick, will use it to take a quarterback, whether they sit at the pick or try to trade up, but I do think they’ll hedge this investment with a high quality backup in Teddy Bridgewater.

At some point during the 2023 season, we should see that rookie QB take the field.  I just don’t see the Colts making an effort to again bring in another veteran than they are convinced can be the starter.  Bridgewater is simply there as the bridge.

Houston Texans – Bryce Young

I have a feeling the Houston Texans take Bryce Young and make the choice to insert him in as the starter immediately as the Bengals did with Joe Burrow and Cardinals did with Kyler Murray.

This is a long rebuilding process for them, so this will take a ton of time.

Tennessee Titans – Trey Lance

Brock Purdy’s injury does complicate things, but former 49ers’ executive Ran Carthon is now the GM of the Titans, so there are obvious connections as the team can also save a ton of money on their cap space by cutting Ryan Tannehill.

Making a deal for a specimen like Trey Lance makes sense.  Hopefully the team has the right coaches in place to develop the young signal caller.
