Predicting the NFC starting QBs for the 2023 season – NFC West

Seattle Seahawks – Geno Smith

Geno Smith had a career year that hardly anyone saw coming and will likely be back in the QB1 chair for the team in 2023.  They were able to make the playoffs and need some serious help on defense.

Having two first round picks, one of which came in the Russell Wilson trade, is a great advantage to fix the D.

Arizona Cardinals – Colt McCoy

I’m struggling with this pick as the Arizona Cardinals are a total mess.  Kyler Murray tore his ACL and won’t be ready until mid-season, so that’s a big disadvantage for the Cards.  They do have Colt McCoy under contract for another year, so I suppose they’ll start him.

Do I think they’ll draft a quarterback with the third overall selection?  No, but I find it very, very possible.  I think they’ll see what the new coach can do with Murray before making a big QB move.

San Francisco 49ers – Brock Purdy

Purdy will be missing several months with his elbow injury, but I expect he’ll be ready to go for them in week one.  An absolutely crazy story that no one saw coming, the 2022 Mr. Irrelevant selection nearly led the team to the Super Bowl.

This likely pushes Trey Lance out of the picture, and Jimmy Garoppolo won’t return.

Los Angeles Rams – Matthew Stafford

Wow, what a total disaster of a season for the Los Angeles Rams.  I don’t think Matthew Stafford will retire, but it does seem like he’s down to the last year or two of his career.  With Sean McVay returning, I think the gang all sticks around and tries one last time to win another Super Bowl.
