The Denver Broncos have been very aggressive in FA
The Denver Broncos have been very aggressive in free agency, and it’s clear what kind of team they want to field in 2023 and beyond.
The offensive line was a sore spot for the Broncos in the 2022 season, allowing a league high number of sacks. They quickly tried to patch those holes, and during the legal tampering period, handed out two massive contracts to offensive linemen.
Guard Ben Powers, an absolute mauler in the run game, is expected to sign a four year deal with the Broncos. Right tackle Mike McGlinchey, an absolute mauler in the run game, is expected to sign a five year deal with the Broncos.
Already it’s clear what the team wants to do on offense, but they weren’t finished on that side of the ball. They also plan on signing blocking tight end Chris Manhertz to a two year contract. They also plan on signing tough runner Samaje Perine to a two year deal and fullback Michael Burton.
Perine recently spent some time with the Cincinnati Bengals and is a bowling ball of a runner. He’s also a very good pass protector.
The Broncos are going to establish the heck out of the run in 2022 and run a ton of play-action. This, coupled with a strong defense, was an offensive formula that Sean Payton used to run in New Orleans.
The Denver Broncos are trying to maximize what they have left with Russell Wilson, and the way to do that is to have a strong run game and a stout defense.
This is also what the Seattle Seahawks did while Wilson was in Seattle, and it’s a winning formula. It’s not as sexy as airing in out, but as long as teams scores points, who cares how they do it?
The Broncos are going to be a new-look and tough team in the 2023 season.
