58th overall: Will McDonald IV, DE, Iowa St

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 239lbs

There are two great indications of the Cowboys’ interest in a particular prospect. First, does he receive an official top-30 visit and second, does he get worked out by a member of the coaching staff? Last year, Dan Quinn orchestrated the workout for Sam Williams, who would eventually become their second round selection.

This year, Dan Quinn spent plenty of time at the Iowa St Pro Day putting pass rusher Will McDonald IV through his workout. While there’s a strong likelihood he is taken long before pick 58, his lack of size and bulk may see him slip into this range. What McDonald lacks in size, he more than makes up for in athleticism, burst, and pure pass-rushing talent. The Cowboys have had success with smaller edge rushers in the past (i.e. Randy Gregory, Robert Quinn) and would welcome McDonalds ability. While he may struggle to set the edge against the run, McDonald possesses the traits needed to make an early impact as a rusher.
