Atlanta Falcons tried to make huge quarterback move?
According to a report from Simon Hunter, the Atlanta Falcons had deals in place for both Kyler Murray and Ryan Tannehill. So, I guess we can’t count out the Atlanta Falcons from being an aggressive team in 2023.
The report comes from Hunter of Action Network.
Here’s what Hunter had to say about both of these potential deals:
"“There was a ton of drama going on behind the scenes,” Hunter said. “Atlanta was going to trade for [Ryan] Tannehill. That was a real thing. Tennessee was going to give Tannehill to Atlanta. They were going to move up to the eighth spot. They couldn’t work out the money.”Hunter continued on to reveal another bombshell.“The same thing happened with Kyler Murray and Atlanta. Apparently, there was a deal in place for the Cardinals and Atlanta. They were going to send Kyler Murray to Atlanta for draft picks and they were going to take some money on. It didn’t work out, obviously.”"
If true, the Falcons clearly do not have faith in Desmond Ridder to be their long-term answer if they were looking at both of these potential deals.
What should we make of this, though?
Well, the first point is the Falcons potential lack of faith in Ridder.
Another reason why they apparently tried to make these deals is perhaps because they think they are close to competing. They play in the NFC South, which is a hilariously weak division at the moment.
They’ve also addressed their defense this offseason, adding players like Jessie Bates III, Jeff Okudah, Calais Campbell, and David Onyemata. They re-signed some of their own guys and currently do have a solid roster.
It’s not outrageous to think that the Atlanta Falcons could contend for a playoff spot this year, especially if they were to have added Tannehill or Murray. There is just a ton of unknown with Ridder at the moment and I do think the Falcons need to win in Arthur Smith’s third season or else he may find himself out of a job.
Perhaps this is something to monitor as we progress towards the 2023 campaign.
