Every year there seems to be a breakout team or two that shocks the entire NFL. Which three teams should we keep an eye out for in 2023? I think the two teams that took this honor in 2022 were the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars.
They were once two of the biggest laughing stocks in the NFL who then proceeded to each win nine games and one playoff game. They’re both trending up because of elite coaching and efficient player.
I think we could see a few more breakout teams in the 2023 season for similar reasons. Between these teams having breakout players and potentially elite coaching, they’re all teams to keep an eye out for in the coming season.
2023 NFL Season: Three breakout teams to keep an eye on
Carolina Panthers
I am very high on the Carolina Panthers. I think the coaching staff they assembled this offseason is going to have them as a division champion and a top four seed in the NFC. Frank Reich is an excellent coach who built an even more excellent staff.
Names like Jim Caldwell, Ejiro Evero, and Thomas Brown are all on the staff. Their roster is underrated and I think this is a team that is going to shock a ton of people in 2023, regardless if Andy Dalton or Bryce Young are under center.
Chicago Bears
General Manager Ryan Poles has done what appears to be a great job building the Bears’ offense in a way to give third year QB Justin Fields all the chance in the world to succeed. He took a step as a passer an a runner in 2023.
Now, with a new shiny weapon in DJ Moore and an improved offensive line, the Bears might be able to scratch and claw their way to a winning record. I think the Detroit Lions are winning the NFC North, but I could see the Bears clinch a playoff spot with a 9-8 record.
Denver Broncos
Another team that could make a leap similar to the Giants and Jaguars in 2022 are the Denver Broncos, who can be a surprise team in the NFL this season. Sean Payton is an excellent coach who has won over 60% of his games and has won a Super Bowl.
He’ll get the most out of this roster, which is top 10 in the NFL. Russell Wilson might be the most talented QB he’s ever worked with, and if the Broncos can be healthier than they were last year, this is a team that can clinch a playoff spot in 2023, even in the loaded AFC.
