2023 NFL Season: Three head coaches on the hot seat

Arthur Smith, Atlanta Falcons

After two straight 7-10 seasons to begin his NFL head coaching career, Arthur Smith needs to put together a winning season in 2023 or his job will be gone, in my opinion.  To be fair to Smith, the Falcons were a bit of a better team in 2022 than they were in 2021, and they added a ton of talent in the 2023 NFL offseason.

With Desmond Ridder being the clear QB1, Bijan Robinson added to the offense and a ton of veteran talent added to the defense, AND being in the weak NFC South, the Falcons have a clear path to a winning record and a playoff berth in 2023, right?

Right???

Well, nothing is a guarantee in the NFL, and my big secret is that I think the Carolina Panthers are winning the NFC South in 2023.  That doesn’t mean I don’t believe in the Falcons, but they do have most in place.  I see adequate weapons on offense and a defense that now has enough talent to not be in the bottom third of the league.

Smith needs to win this year, period.
