We haven’t even hit the 2023 NFL season yet, but there could be some major QB movement once we hit the 2024 NFL offseason.  We might be getting way ahead of ourselves, but who cares?  This is what the NFL is all about.  The drama is so fun to follow and to try and predict.

The 2023 season could be very pivotal for a few quarterbacks and their future in the NFL and on their current teams.  Many teams are entering make-or-break seasons for a plethora of reasons.  And with the NFL having an insane amount of parity, there are going to be some teams who may end up being sorely disappointed this year.

Depending on what happens, there could be even more QB movement next offseason.  Let’s take a look at three big-name QBs who could be on the move in the 2024 offseason.

Three big-name QBs who could be on the move in 2024

Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

Kirk Cousins is set to enter his sixth season as the Vikings’ starter already.  Cousins has been nothing but consistent during his time with Minnesota and as a starter in the NFL, but it’s clear that he is not an elite passer and that the Vikings aren’t going to win a Super Bowl with him under center.

He’s also set to enter his age-35 season and is likely not going to be starting in the NFL much longer.  With a new regime in Minnesota, the Vikings may decide to not re-sign Cousins in 2024, who is a free agent.  It might be best for both sides to go their separate ways.

Cousins could probably find another starting job, but the Vikings have also parted with quite a few veterans this offseason, and 2024 may not be different.

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

The situation is kind of similar in Arizona in that there is a new regime in town who have no connection with their current QB.  Kyler Murray may miss most, if not all if the 2023 season due to a torn ACL suffered in 2023.  The Cardinals also caved to Murray’s demands by signing him to a long-term deal.

With questions about his health and even commitment to the game, Cards’ GM Monti Ossenfort might not want to deal with him anymore, and the Cardinals may be bad enough in 2023 to have the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

They could also save $38 million on their 2024 cap number by trading Murray next offseason.  It might make sense for both sides.

Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos

Another QB who could be on the move in 2024 is Russell Wilson, who is also set to enter a very crucial year in his NFL career.  Wilson was playing at a backup level in 2022, and it was just an overall ugly season for the QB.

There was so much that went wrong for the Denver Broncos in 2022, and Sean Payton being the HC now is nothing but good news for the team.  However, even though Payton is an offensive mastermind, there is a chance that Wilson is truly washed up and may not be effective anymore.

If that is the case in 2023, the Broncos might want to get out of his contract ASAP, so cutting him might have to be an option in 2024.  It would be a tough dead cap hit to endure, but the Band-Aid might have to be ripped off at that point.
