NFL Free Agency: Potential fits for Kirk Cousins in 2024
Los Angeles Rams
Another fit for the veteran QB was also mentioned by Florio, and that would be the Los Angeles Rams. Here’s some more of what Florio had to say about the Rams as being a possibility:
"The other wild card is the Rams. Although Matthew Stafford is officially their guy for 2023, there were rumblings that the Rams were hoping for a trade offer, possibly from the Jets if the Aaron Rodgers deal had fallen through. After another year of Stafford holding his aging body together, while also potentially getting injured at some point during the 2023 season, coach Sean McVay — who like Shanahan worked with Cousins in D.C. — could decide to make a play for Cousins. Especially if McVay thinks Shanahan will finally try to get Cousins."
If the Rams do want to move on from Matthew Stafford, they should just embrace a rebuild and take a swing on a young passer, perhaps in the 2024 NFL Draft. McVay and Les Snead are clearly trying to milk this window out for as long as possible, even if the window has closed.
They’re just two years removed from winning the Super Bowl, so perhaps some better injury luck in 2023 could net better results. Cousins is a more efficient passer than Stafford and does stay much heathier, so flipping from Stafford to Captain Kirk might make sense for a couple of years if the Rams truly believe they still have a Super Bowl core.
