Auburn cornerback Jonathon Mincy has been arrested and charged with second degree drug possession.  The three year starter for the Tigers was a passenger in a car pulled over for allegedly speeding according to the Henry County Sherriff’s office as reported by Alex Scarborough of ESPN.  The traffic stop occurred in Abbeville, AL.

"“It was a routine stop on 431 near Great Southern Wood in Abbeville of a car doing 92 in a 65,” Henry County Sheriff William Maddox told The Dothan Eagle. “The officer went to the car and smelled marijuana. There were two males and two females in the car and one of the males had shake all over his shirt sitting in the car in the back and there was a bag of marijuana near him. That person happened to be Jonathon Mincy of the Auburn football team.”"

Mincy is getting ready to enter his senior season and was regarded as a leader by head coach Gus Malzahn in spring practice.  According to Malzahn, “Jonathon’s a guy that has a lot of quality big-game experience.  He’s a guy that we’ll rely on to really lead that back end, specifically that corner position.”  [Mincy] is “really ready to step up as a leader back there.”

Mincy had also been named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List in May.  While this is a relatively minor situation, the hope is that Mincy can use this to stay out of further trouble, have another good year for the SEC Champs and then go in the 2015 NFL Draft.
