Notable Games

  • Michigan State

A physical team that will put Olomu’s tackling to the test immediately,  Sparty provides a physical test in a big out of conference matchup on national television in primetime at home the second week of the year.  This could be a statement game not only for Olomu, but Oregon as a whole as they continue to face questions about their overall toughness.

  • Washington

The PAC-12 has a few extremely talented receiver prospects coming off of major injuries.  Kasen Williams of Washington is coming back from a foot injury, but is a unique matchup because he has a unique build with a lot of strength and long arms.  As always, it can be difficult to predict how these will go and where teams will line players up, but if these two go against each other, it is a big difference in styles.

  • Stanford

Not only do the Cardinal have a streak going against Oregon, but in addition to being big and strong, they also have a talented receiver in Ty Montgomery that will be a huge key in order for Stanford to have a multifaceted attack in that game.

Noticeably absent from the Ducks’ schedule is USC.  In order for the two to play, they will both have to qualify for the PAC-12 Championship, which would then allow Olomu to face off against Nelson Agholor; USC’s top receiver coming into this season.

System Fit

  • Weak Side Corner in a Man Scheme

On value, it seems like this is the earliest Olomu would be selected given that those teams tend to put a higher premium on corners.  Olomu has the talent to be a fantastic cover corner that can help in the running game and just continues to get better and better.  If a team sets him to attack forward more, his interception totals may increase significantly.

  • Weak Side Corner in a Hybrid Scheme

Olomu has shown he can help in zone but has improved at disguising what he is doing.  For the teams that like to throw a lot of different coverages at the opponent, this might be Olomu’s best fit.  He can run with opponents, make plays in zone and is aggressive going downhill.

  • Weak Side Zone Corner

Olomu certainly has the skills to do it and could be successful there, but teams tend to like these corners to be a little bigger and stronger.  This seems the least likely scenario but it cannot be ruled out completely.
