Up to this point, it looks like the New Orleans Saints missed badly on No. 13 overall Andrus Peat. It doesn’t look like he can run-block or pass-block but otherwise, Peat is a great tackle prospect. Seriously, he is that bad as not only did he fail to win a starting job in camp but he failed when called upon to fill in for injured left tackle Terron Armstead.

He was so bad 3rd-string left tackle Tony Hills came in to steady the position so far. If this keeps up for Peat, between he and so-called bully victim Johnathan Martin, the NFL will stop drafting left tackles from Stanford. So while that miss hurts, not all is lost because they have a 1st-round pick as the result of the Jimmy Graham trade.

And he turned out to be middle linebacker Stephone Anthony, who’s starting to come around. He’s a superb athlete that can go sideline to sideline as we as cover backs and tight ends in space. However, most importantly, his a quick study that has a firm grasp on the defensive playbook.

He knows exactly what defensive coordinator Rob Ryan wants out there and his able to make the calls. Last Sunday we got a chance to see the athletic part of him that can make plays for the team. He had seven tackles on the day with a pass defended and the interception of his young career, helping the Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts 27-21.

Quarterback Drew Brees is going to get the offense worked out so we’ll have to see more from Anthony if the Saints are going to be a factor.

It’s not too late yet.
