The Los Angeles Rams Depth Chart has gone through a major shift thanks to the trade that brought in Jared Goff.

The biggest thing Los Angeles Rams Depth Chart lacks after the big offseason trade is depth. This is especially true on the defensive side of the ball where several key players have departed via free agency.

Quarterback

Starter: Jared Goff
Backup: Case Keenum

This is Jared Goff’s franchise and the Rams are counting on him making an immediate impact. They’ve sacrificed a lot of draft picks in order to land what they feel is the long-term answer at the position.

Case Keenum isn’t anything special but he’s a solid backup and someone capable of giving a start or two.

Running Back

Starter: Todd Gurley
Backups: Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham and Aaron Green

Luckily, Goff will spend a lot of his time handing the ball off to the ultra-talented Todd Gurley. He’s going to touch the ball a ton which will help take pressure off the young quarterback. Los Angeles will want to see more consistency from Gurley to go along with those splash plays.

Wide Receiver

Starters: Tavon Austin and Kenny Britt
No. 3: Brian Quick
Backups: Pharoh Cooper, Mike Thomas and Duke Williams

Tavon Austin had a breakout season last year and will look to build off that success. However, the overall effectiveness of this group will depend on Brian Quick living up to his potential. Otherwise, this offense will be a lot of dink and dunk throws.

Tight End

Starter: Lance Kendricks
Backups: Tyler Higbee, Temarrick Hemingway and Corey Harkey

Lance Kendricks is a solid contributor but look out for rookie Tyler Higbee. He’s an explosive athlete who can really be a difference maker in the passing game. However, he needs to clear up some off-field issues before he’ll be ready to contribute.

Left Tackle

Starter: Greg Robinson
Backups: Rodger Saffold and Isaiah Battle

Los Angeles needs Greg Robinson to turn the corner and live up to his draft status. The potential is there for him to be an elite player, but his play has been inconsistent and development slow.

Left Guard

More from With the First Pick

Starter: Rodger Saffold
Backups: Garrett Reynolds, Cody Wichman and Isaiah Battle

Injuries and inconsistency has plagued Saffold throughout his career. He continues to get opportunities mainly because the Rams don’t have any better options.

Center

Starter: Tim Barnes
Backup: Demetrius Rhaney

Tim Barnes is a solid contributor but doesn’t standout and may have already reached his ceiling.

Right Guard

Starter: Jamon Brown
Backups: Garrett Reynolds, Cody Wichman and Isaiah Battle

Jamon Brown is a big-bodied guard whose best skill is his run blocking ability. He showed flashes as a rookie but needs to avoid mistakes.

Right Tackle

Starter: Rob Havenstein
Backups: Isaiah Battle and Cody Wichman

The Rams like Brown and Rob Havenstein on the right side of the line because they are both talented run blockers. This fits their strategy as a team that wants to feature Todd Gurley and the running game.

Defensive End

Starters: Robert Quinn and William Hayes
Backups: Quinton Coples and Eugene Sims

Robert Quinn is an elite talent and the Rams are counting on him to generate a ton of pressure. It’ll be interesting to see if Quinton Coples can turn his career around now that he’s a in 4-3 defense. He was miscast as an outside linebacker while with the Jets.

Defensive Tackle

Starters: Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers
Backups: Ethan Westbrooks, Dominique Easley and Cam Thomas

SAM Linebacker

Starter: Akeem Ayers
Backups: Josh Forrest and Cameron Lynch

Akeem Ayers provided strong production last year and was an underrated signing. The depth at the linebacker position is a major weakness and could be an issue later in the season.

Middle Linebacker

Starter: Alec Ogletree
Backup: Bryce Hager

Alec Ogletree is taking over the starting middle linebacker spot after the Rams cut ties with James Laurinaitis. He has the athletic ability to make the transition, but there will be some growing pains.

WILL Linebacker

Starter: Mark Barron
Backups: Josh Forrest and Cameron Lynch

Mark Barron really took to being moved to the linebacker position where he could play to his strengths. He owes the Rams coaching staff as it allowed him to sign a long-term deal in the offseason.

Cornerback

Starters: Trumaine Johnson and EJ Gaines
Backups: Coty Sensabaugh, Lamarcus Joyner and Marcus Roberson

The loss of Janoris Jenkins will hurt, but the Rams are in good position with EJ Gaines returning from injury. Coty Sensabaugh is a versatile defender who’s very underrated.

Safety

Starters: TJ McDonald and Cody Davis
Backups: Mo Alexander and Mark Barron

TJ McDonald is the leader of the safety group which is doesn’t have a clear replacement for Rodney McCleod.
