ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Los Angeles Chargers have come to terms on a 4-year, $66 million contract with defensive end Melvin Ingram.

Ingram is in his sixth season with the Los Angeles Chargers and has led the team in sacks the past two seasons.  He has 18.5 sacks during that time. This deal would make Melvin Ingram one of the highest paid defensive ends in the league.

Ingram was the 18th pick in round one of the 2012 NFL Draft.  His career began slowly with the Chargers as he recorded just two sacks in his first two seasons.  However, in 2014 he had 4 sacks and had 10.5 in 2015.

Melvin Ingram will team with Joey Bosa to give the Los Angeles Chargers an outstanding set of bookend pass rushers.  They will use a 4-3 defense under new head coach Anthony Lynn.  Lynn hired former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley as the defensive coordinator to install the 4-3.

Bradley was a former defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks and led that to become one of the top defenses in the NFL.  Lynn is hoping Bradley can do the same for the Los Angeles Chargers.  Melvin Ingram is one of the key pieces to making that happen.
