Pick No. 9: Shawn Oakman (New York Giants)

With the ninth pick in the NFL Draft, the New York Giants select Shawn Oakman from the Baylor Bears. This is another good combination between filling a team need and getting the best player still on the board. The Giants have no pass rush these days with guys like Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck playing for different teams.

A player like the 6’8″, 275 pound Oakman with awesome athleticism is a good start toward rebuilding that pass rush. From Lawrence Taylor to Michael Strahan on down to Tuck, the Giants traditionally have pass rushers to harass quarterbacks. And as I said before, Oakman is the best player on the board at this time so the value is there as well.
