LSU LB Kwon Alexander declares for the NFL Draft

LSU linebacker Kwon Alexander has to decided to forgo his senior season and declare for the NFL Draft.  After finishing this season with a loss to Notre Dame in their bowl game, Alexander has opted to go ahead and go pro.  A true junior, this was Alexander’s first season as a full time starter.  He started two games as a true freshman and nine as a sophomore, he is a player that could potentially play all three linebacker spots in the NFL.

Perhaps impacting his decision to go to the NFL, defensive coordinator John Chavis accepted an offer to become the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M.  Alexander, listed at 6’2″ 227lbs, he is undersized at the moment and will need to add bulk as he works to get ready for the NFL Draft.  Alexander is part of an incredible trend of underclassmen at LSU that have left school early, forcing them to play young players.  This has been great as a recuiting tool, but made it difficult for them to be a truly competitive team and could hurt them next year.

Head coach Les Miles will be once again challenged to replace a big time player at linebacker, such as he had to do when Kevin Minter opted to declare as a junior.  Jalen Mills, the team’s top cornerback has also declared, so LSU has its work cut out for them in addition to finding a new defensive coordinator.
