Michigan State CB Trae Waynes declares for the NFL Draft

Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes has announced his intention to forgo his senior season and enter the 2015 NFL Draft.  One year after Darqueze Dennard was a first round corner selected by the Cincinnati Bengals, Waynes has a shot to get picked in a similar area as his former teammate.  Though Waynes did not have a great game personally, his last game in a Spartan uniform will be in a huge come from behind victory as Michigan State was able to come back and get a last minute win against Baylor in the Cotton Bowl.

Waynes is the third notable cornerback in the last couple days to declare for the NFL Draft along with Alex Carter from Stanford and Jalen Mills from LSU.  Listed at 6’1″ 182lbs, Waynes has the length that teams love to find in corners but needs to continue to get stronger and fill out his frame as he prepares for the draft.  For reasons from injuries to off field concerns, the corner position is muddled at this point and the first spots are up for grabs, giving Waynes a shot at going in the first round or even being the top corner selected.

Waynes finished the year with 31 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 3 interceptions, and 7 pass deflections in 12 games.
