Florida State DE Mario Edwards will declare from the NFL Draft
By Peter Smith
Florida State defensive end Mario Edwards is going to forgo his senior season and declare for the 2015 NFL Draft according to ESPN’s Joe Schad. Edwards could be the first of a few Seminole underclassmen that may declare for the draft including fellow defensive lineman Eddie Goldman. One of the larger defensive ends in the country, Edwards could appeal to teams that run both even and odd fronts in the NFL.

Edwards, listed 6’3″ 294lbs, accounted for 25 solo tackles, 3 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles and 5 pass deflections this season. While he has not put up a ton of numbers as a sack artist over his career, he could potentially be a player that is a defensive end in base front and then kicks inside on passing downs because of his size. 3-4 teams could end up liking his size and overall length to help defend the run.
After being arguably the top high school prospect in 2012, Edwards has played all three seasons in Tallahassee, but he has not quite lived up to the hype as many were expecting him to be more like Jadeveon Clowney was for South Carolina. Stylistically, Edwards just may not be that type of player, but he could give a team some toughness against the run as well as versatility.
