Bottom Line
He won a National Championship, a Heisman Trophy, and went 26-1 as a starter at Florida State. And if that isn’t enough, he did so as a pro-style quarterback back so it’s easy to translate to the NFL. He’s the safest prospect there is on the field as his 4.0 GPA in high school tells you he’s smart but was slow to mature.
However, experiences in life are what matures a person and he is sure to have learned from what he went through. Deion Sanders always says on NFL Network, I want a guy that’s been through something leading my team. And even though he brought it on himself, he’s been through plenty and actually played very well under the circumstances he played under this past year.
All your draft gurus now have Winston pulling away from the rest of the pack further each day. ESPN Draft analyst Todd McShay said on ESPN, “On the field, between the lines, he’s [Winston] the best quarterback and I believe the best player in the 2015 Draft. Everything George [Whitfield Jr. his personal quarterback coach] talked about, it translates to the NFL.
“When you’re watching tape of him, it’s very different from watching Oregon’s tape and Marcus Mariota. Mariota is a supremely talented player but you get to watch him [Winston] make NFL throws. He has great leadership between the lines on the field, during games.
“He understands how to lead receivers and throw to spots and I think the biggest thing is and George said it, the anticipation. He has to anticipate throws, throw down the field and hit a spot on the field where a receiver’s going to run into that ball and he does it very consistently. I actually thought—I know he forced some throws this year and I know there were some times that he was trying to do too much because the supporting cast wasn’t great but I thought he played better this year than he did a year ago even though the statistics don’t really back that statement up.”
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are getting a future elite quarterback!
