With 22 sacks on the year, Justin Houston is another player in this Top-5 that isn’t going anywhere. You already know that’s not what head coach Andy Reid signed on for a few years back. The plan was for Reid to come in and straighten out the offense while Houston and the defense takes them home.

Houston should get the deal he wants but if not, that’s what the franchise tag is for and the Chiefs will use it. The fact that the Sun is starting to set on the career of Tamba Hali on the other side makes it even more urgent. If the Chiefs can keep what they have and get a good receiver, they have a shot at the Super Bowl.

But it starts with keeping Houston, who’s just entering the prime of his career at the age of 26. At the rate he’s going, you never know, he just might threaten the Kansas City Chiefs’ sack record set by the legendary Derrick Thomas. What I do know is the Chiefs will be hard to beat in that loud stadium with Houston coming off the edge for a few more years.
