Kansas City Chiefs 2015 NFL Draft Preview

facebooktwitterreddit

Teams are putting the finishing touches on their preparation as the 2015 NFL Draft is nearly here.

To preview the draft for the Kansas City Chiefs, I got together with Matt Verderame of Arrowhead Addict. Below are my questions followed by his answers.

1. What are the team’s biggest needs heading into the draft and how might they address them?

"The Chiefs need a cornerback, center, inside linebacker and receiver. Kansas City is likely to take a corner in the first if Trae Waynes or Jalen Collins is available. I expect the other needs to be addressed on Day Two, unless the Chiefs fall in love with Cameron Erving and take him at No. 18."

  • 2. What needs to happen for this draft to be considered a success?

"For Kansas City, it has to take care of center and cornerback. The Chiefs have a good corner duo in Phillip Gaines and Sean Smith, but Smith is likely to be suspended for two games after a DUI guilty plea. Kansas City also let its slot corner, Chris Owens, go and did not replace him."

    3. What in your mind would make this draft a failure?

"Coming away with anything less than three immediate impact players. Kansas City has 10 picks including four in the top 100. General manager John Dorsey has to get some real talent."

    4. What is a bold prediction for your team this draft?

"Kansas City trades up and acquires an extra second-round pick. The Chiefs need a receiver and an inside linebacker, and the sweet spot appears to be the second round. I believe Dorsey goes for broke and gets back up there."

    5. What is a draft angle the general public might not be aware of for your team?

"Dorsey loves to draft players with long arms. He’s a big fan of linemen and corners with reach. Look for players who have “long” measurables to be in red and yellow."
