Chicago Bears 2015 NFL Draft Preview

facebooktwitterreddit

Teams are putting the finishing touches on their preparation as the 2015 NFL Draft is nearly here.

To preview the draft for the Chicago Bears, I got together with Mike Flannery of Bear Goggles On. Below are my questions followed by his answers.

1. What are the team’s biggest needs heading into the draft and how might they address them?

"Its hard to narrow it down with needs almost everywhere, but the three biggest in my opinion are inside linebacker, wide receiver, and safety. Safety and ILB aren’t deep positions this year, so I think they will address then no later than round 4. As for receiver, the Bears should have a chance at one of the top two receivers in the draft (Cooper, White) and I think they will either take one with the 7th pick or in the 2nd round. They need a WR who can contribute right away and I don’t think they will wait longer than day 2."

  • 2. What needs to happen for this draft to be considered a success?

"With such little depth on the roster, they need to find at least 4 players who can contribute this year even if it’s as a rotation player."

    3. What in your mind would make this draft a failure?

"Not addressing positions where they don’t have a viable starter like strong safety, inside linebacker, and #2 wide receiver. Also not finding at least 4 players who can contribute this season."

    4. What is a bold prediction for your team this draft?

"The Bears trade down to pick up an extra pick or two. They have multiple needs on both sides of the ball."

    5. What is a draft angle the general public might not be aware of for your team?

"That the Bears may draft a running back. Matt Forte is going into the last year of his contract and will be 30 this year. The Bears have last year’s 4th round pick Ka’Deem Carey as a back-up, but he was drafted by the old regime and the new brass may not think Carey can take over if the Bears don’t re-sign Forte. The fact that they signed Jaquizz Rodgers could be a sign that the Bears don’t even trust Carey as the primary backup."
