New England Patriots 2015 NFL Draft Preview

Teams are putting the finishing touches on their preparation as the 2015 NFL Draft is nearly here.

To preview the draft for the New England Patriots, I got together with Cyrus Geller of Musket Fire. Below are my questions followed by his answers.

1. What are the team’s biggest needs heading into the draft and how might they address them?

"I think the offensive, and defensive lines are the two biggest needs right now, and I’d give the offense the edge for the top priority. New England’s offensive unit has the potential to be the best in the league next year, but there is a gaping hole at left guard that needs to be addressed."

  • 2. What needs to happen for this draft to be considered a success?

"As a Patriots fan, you never know what to expect come draft day, but I surely hope they address the offensive line at some point in the draft. I trust Bill Belichick, but I don’t know how well Tom Brady could perform next year with their current offensive line."

    3. What in your mind would make this draft a failure?

"Easy. If the Pats take a receiver in the first two rounds, I will be beyond furious. That is not a need for this team right now, and this draft class is loaded with talent at wide receiver. If Belichick insists on taking a wideout, wait until the later rounds."

    4. What is a bold prediction for your team this draft?

"New England could potentially select a cornerback high in the draft, given the departures of Darrelle Revis, and Brandon Browner, but I would be extremely surprised (hence the bold prediction). The Pats need some secondary help, but not a lot."

    5. What is a draft angle the general public might not be aware of for your team?

"There is a common misconception that Bill Belichick only likes to trade down, when in fact, he likes to trade up just as much. Be on the lookout for a few trades from Belichick over the course of the draft."
