Green Bay Packers Select Damarious Randall at No. 30

I thought the Green Bay Packers were set at safety with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Morgan Burnett. Clinton-Dix made the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie team as a a free safety. Morgan Burnett, the team’s strong safety, is a leader on the Packers secondary as he among the most experienced.But they selected Damarious Randall with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft anyway. This isn’t exactly a surprise to Packers fans as general manager Ted Thompson always takes the best player on the board. He doesn’t care about value, or need, he simply evaluates the players and takes the best ones he can find.

Packers fans can’t be made at that either because that way of thinking had Aaron Rodgers ready to go when Brett Favre moved on. Randall is athletic with good speed, toughness and effort, racking up 177 tackles during two-year stint at Arizona State. He’s also a big hitter that explodes into receivers and is a big help in run support.

Blitzing is another part of the game he excells at, timing snap and as he has a nose for the quarterback. Senses throws underneath and breaks on them early. Randall played some wide receiver in junior college so he has good hands to make interceptions. It will be interesting to see who the odd man out will be due to Randall’s presence.
