Passing Game: Walford

Despite having a freshman quarterback, Walford was able to put up comparable numbers to Williams. He had 100 more yards on eight more catches while Williams had one more touchdown with their yards per averages about the same. But if you’re looking for the traits that are going to get it done in the NFL, Walford is your guy.

They both ran in the high 4.7s at the NFL Scouting Combine but I don’t trust that so much. That’s the same combine that had Kevin White .07 faster than Amari Cooper but on the simulcam. Cooper was faster. Walford looks much faster on tape as he caught a ball at the 50-yardline and made it all the way against a fast Florida State secondary.

And on that same play, he showed he was a great route-runner to get open in the first place. If you look at Williams, he’s stiff as a board and doesn’t have the same wiggle to get open Walford has. I’m not say Williams is slow and can’t run routes but he is stiff, not fluid the way Walford is.

Scouts say Williams has better hands but Walford dropped just 4.35 percent of the catchable passes thrown is way to 7.69 for Williams (Pro Football Focus). And even though they are the same height, (6’4″) Walford provides a better catch radius for his quarterback. Not only does he have better body control but he has a better vertical leap and longer arms.
