When the St. Louis Rams used their No. 10 overall pick on Todd Gurley, all the questions stared flying. A pick that high is expected to make an immediate impact on the team he ends up going to. Talent-wise, he could be the best player in the 2015 NFL Draft so that’s not where the question come from.
The only questionable part of this pick is just how much of an immediate impact he’ll have because of injury. When opening week comes, Gurley will only be nine months removed from a torn ACL. Adrian Peterson, the NFL’s best running back, was able to come back with a career-high 2,097 yards after tearing his.
And many see the physical talent of Gurley as comparable to that of the NFL’s best running back. And as far as the injury goes, Gurley has the advantage of being a younger man the Peterson was. Gurley’s rehab is going well now and as of May 1, Gurley is expected to be back by the second week of training camp per Ian Rapoport.
That’s plenty of time for Gurley to sharpen his iron with his teammates to be ready for the season. And the Rams seem to be planning for him to make a huge immediate impact they need him to. Seven of the Rams’ nine draft picks were spent on the running game and defense and the defense is already good.
And quarterback Nick Foles is a great game manager that can throw deep if opposing safeties cheat up. And as far as Gurley’s health goes, he’s way ahead of schedule and running full speed in a straight line. So all indications are that it’s all set up for Gurley to make an immediate impact.
Watch for it Rams fans!
