Stopping the Run

The Chargers could probably use a pass-rusher but even that wouldn’t matter if they can’t stop the run. If you can’t stop the run, particularly in the playoffs with inclement weather, you can’t win. So in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Chargers selected inside linebacker Denzel Perryman.

Perryman is and absolute steal that teams didn’t seem to want to take a chance on in the first round. They didn’t want to take a chance on Chris Borland in the first two round and boy was he a player before retiring early. He actually reminds me of the former San Francisco 49er with his instincts but Perryman is more physical.

Pairing with fellow inside backer Manti Te’o and being coached by Mike Nolan will be a big help. Te’o told ESPN of the linebackers coach, “Coach Nolan brings an old-school feel to not only our position, but to the defense as a whole,” “He’s all about making plays. He’s all about doing whatever it takes to put each piece in a position to make a play. It’s definitely a good thing to have him here.”
