Defensive back Byron Jones ran and jumped his way into the first round of the draft at the combine. And the Dallas Cowboys, who needed defensive backs, happily caught him at No. 27 overall. And from the first week of camp on, he hasn’t disappointed the Cowboys, showing his freak athleticism.

He matched up with Dez Bryantl, who eats everyone up in 1-on-1 drills in camp, and stopped him. That drew respect from Bryant, who told Cowboysblog.Dallasnews.com, “That was a good job by him because I had it. “He had my right arm. I practice on my left and my right enough. I had my eyes glued to the ball. He just made an outstanding play. He ripped it out.”

In his first action in the NFL, a preseason game vs the San Diego Chargers, he showed up okay. He needs to do a better job of adjusting to the back-shoulder fade but he proved to be a tackler with five. He’ll have plenty of work on the back-shoulder fade with Bryant in practice so I like his chances.
