Replaceable

Weakside linebacker Malcolm Smith is that guy that came with Norton from Seattle to Oakland. That’s the position that Moore played in 2014 so there’s no need for him at that position anymore. While Moore was on the PUP list, the MVP of Super Bowl XLVIII ago had a great offseason, camp and preseason.

But when Khalil Mack moved to the Leo position, there was concern about strongside outside linebacker position. Watching Ray-Ray Armstrong play the strongside position is what raised that concern. Not only could Moore set a hard edge in the run-game but he could rush the passer off the edge too.

He was replaced there too as Norton found another former Seahawk, this one a Raider in 2014, to take the strong side. The Raiders had been working defensive end Benson Mayowa, an outside linebacker, in college, out at the position. And when he played well there during preseason games, the writing was on the wall for Moore.
