Ohio State’s Cardale Jones will be a 2nd round pick despite being benched at some point this season

Heading into the season Ohio State was expected to dominate the field as they made their way to the National Championship game. However, things haven’t gone as planned and a lot of the blame is being placed on an inconsistent offensive attack led by Cardale Jones.

Jones has gotten off to a slow start especially regarding his accuracy and decision making. He already has 5 interceptions this season which has sparked some debate on if Urban Meyer should sit Jones in favor of J.T. Barrett.

The way things are trending it appears only a matter of time before Meyer makes a move at the position. Ohio State can’t afford to lose a game and still have a strong case to play for the National Championship.

Barrett is a more consistent and reliable player who has shown his ability to protect the football. He doesn’t have the same type of big-play potential as Jones, but at this point Ohio State might be better off with consistency.

A mid-season benching would have a major impact on Jones’ NFL future. He’s regarded as one of the better quarterback prospects eligible for the 2016 NFL Draft because of his elite physical talents.

Losing his starting job to Barrett will hurt but Jones will still have a shot a coming off the board early in the draft. NFL teams love prospects with elite talent that they can use to develop and mold the player into a star.

Jones is too talented to fall far in the draft, but the difference could be getting selected in the 2nd round rather than the top-10 overall.
