Goff is having a terrific season and has already established himself as the top quarterback prospect in this draft. He has the size, athleticism and arm strength needed to excel at the next level.
However, it’s his decision making and poise that separates him from the pack. Goff does a good job standing tall in the pocket and working his way across the field with his progressions. He doesn’t allow the pressure to impact his decision making.
It’s early in the process to assume that Goff will enter the 2016 draft. We have seen top-end quarterback prospects like Andrew Luck shock everyone and return to school. While Goff is a strong prospect, there are areas of his game that could improve.
The area that could use the most attention is his build. Goff lacks bulk on his frame which could hinder his ability to remain healthy after seeing increased hits in the NFL.
A young quarterback with the chance to be the No. 1 overall pick also needs to consider the teams picking at the top of the draft. Some situations aren’t ideal for a rookie quarterback to properly develop and could scare a prospect back to school.
As it stands, I’d gamble that Goff enters the 2016 draft but this might be a tougher decision than most realize.
