The Detroit Lions make changes in the front office that will impact the 2016 NFL Draft
By Jon Dove
It came as bit of a surprise that the Detroit Lions decided to fire President Tom Lewand and General Manager Martin Mayhew in the middle of the season. However, this is a franchise that is looking to change their losing ways. The roster has had a good collection of talent over the past few years but has yet to find sustained success.
They have made chances to the coaching staff over the years which did little to change the outcome. Ownership made the right call by spearheading an organizational shakeup. This move will undoubtedly trickle down to the roster where can expect to see major changes.

Reports surfaced yesterday after the firings that Matthew Stafford’s future with the team is more uncertain now than ever. His inconsistent play and contract numbers appear to be the biggest factors working towards his departure from the team.
However, the front office changes now need to be added to the mix where the new regime will likely want to build a team based on their vision. This could very well result in replacing Stafford with a quarterback from the 2016 NFL Draft.
Detroit’s season is trending towards owning a pick within the first three picks of the draft. This would give the new front office the option of targeting a potential franchise quarterback such as California’s Jared Goff, Michigan State’s Connor Cook and Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg.
The franchise heading in this direction is more possible now after parting ways with the President and General Manager who were tied to Stafford. Whoever is hired as the replacement will have no stake in Stafford and thus be more inclined to make a dramatic change.
There are a lot of things that need to play out in Detroit, but we can at least start to consider the real possibility that this franchise will go through a maj0r face lift.
