In-depth Scouting Report

The Houston Texans need to be aggressive this offseason and do whatever it takes to upgrade the quarterback position. Bill O’Brien was brought in because of his ability to develop quarterbacks, but hasn’t been given much to work with.

Memphis’ Paxton Lynch has shot up draft boards thanks to his strong play and the fact Memphis is winning games. Lynch checks off all the boxes scouts look for when evaluating a quarterback.

He features excellent size, a strong arm and above-average athleticism. His leadership ability and history of winning only helps his cause.

One concern is that Lynch doesn’t have much experience reading the defense. However, this isn’t anything new as most of the recent quarterback prospects have entered the league with a similar issue. It only means that it will take some time for Lynch to fully develop.

While O’Brien is seen as a quarterback’s coach, he also likes to feature a strong running game. Arian Foster suffering yet another long-term injury could force the Texans to target a running back early in the 2016 Draft.

Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott is off the board in this mock draft, but it’s possible he’s still on the board when Houston is on the clock.
