2. San Francisco 49ers- Jared Goff, QB, California
Colin Kaepernick’s future with the San Francisco 49ers is pretty much toast. He hasn’t progressed enough to warrant his contract numbers. The fact that San Francisco thinks Blaine Gabbert gives them a better chance to win is telling.
Luckily, the 49ers should have an opportunity to add a young quarterback to replace Kaepernick. California’s Jared Goff is a tall and heady quarterback who does his damage from the pocket.
This is exactly what the 49ers need as Goff brings completely different skill set than Kaepernick.
The trouble is that by adding Goff the 49ers are admitting defeat and basically jumping into a complete rebuild. He’s talented enough to be an immediate starter, but he’ll go through his share of growing pains.
San Francisco also lacks the weapons needed to help a young quarterback succeed. The wide receiver position consists of the streaky Torrey Smith and aging Anquan Bolden. There are also some issues along the offensive line outside of Joe Staley.
It’s shocking to see a franchise fall this far. Only a few years ago, the 49ers were in the Super Bowl and appeared to be a team that would remain in contention for a long time. This current team is nowhere close to contention.
