31. Carolina Panthers- Mike Williams, WR, Clemson
Clemson’s Mike Williams is an elite talent who only lasts this long because of the neck injury he suffered at the start of the year. He’s expected to make a full recovery but teams will still be hesitant and want a full medical report.
The Carolina Panthers have been one of the big surprises this year, but I’m equally shocked at how well the offensive line has come together. However, Carolina still needs to add offensive fire power to help out Cam Newton.
Williams fits in well alongside Kelvin Benjamin because his a more explosive athlete and better route runner. Benjamin is that physical receiver teams covet, but Williams can stretch the field as well as create separation underneath.
The age and injury history of defensive end Charles Johnson should be an area of concern. In fact, the Panthers mid-season trade for Jared Allen shows they are aware of their limited options at defensive end.
Someone like Baylor’s Shawn Oakman would be a strong option at this point in the draft. He’s a freak of an athlete who combines rare size, quickness and length. Oakman isn’t a finished product and needs to work on developing a more varied pass-rush arsenal.
Forfeited pick- New England Patriots
