6. Dallas Cowboys- Robert Nkemdiche, DL, Ole Miss
Ole Miss’s Robert Nkemdiche is an ideal fit for Rod Marinelli’s defense at the 3-technique position. His elite first step and closing burst make him a nightmare to keep out of the backfield. Nkemdiche could be truly unstoppable if he lands with the Dallas Cowboys.
This might not seem like a major need for the Cowboys with Tyrone Crawford signed to a long-term deal. However, Nkemdiche is a special talent who would be tough to pass up.
It’s possible that both Nkemdiche and Crawford can be on the field at the same time. Nkemdiche is versatile enough to play some defensive end where he can generate pressure off the edge.
Notre Dame’s Jaylon Smith might be a better fit in Dallas but he’s off the board in this mock. Smith would slide in at inside linebacker where he would replace the unreliable Rolando McClain. Because of his athleticism, Smith would fit in Marinelli’s Tampa-2 attack.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Cowboys can make a run now that Tony Romo is back in the lineup. There’s still a small chance they make the playoffs, but at the very least win a few more games and drop in the draft order.
