Owners over L.A. committee

Perhaps the biggest misconception was that the L.A. committee would decide who got into L.A. Every other day, they leaked things to the media that were favorable toward San Diego Chargers owner Dean Spanos’ proposal. Before the vote came, some lies even leaked out of the committee about St. Louis having a viable plan.

Then there were lies about St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s stadium plan costing only $1.8 billion compared to San Diego Chargers owner Dean Spanos’ $1.6 billion proposal to make it look close. But Kroenke’s proposal is was actually $2.6 billion so after the L.A. committee recommended Spanos’ plan 5-1, the votes weren’t close, going from 20-12 to 30-2, both in favor of Kroenke.

Spanos and Davis were the only ones against Kroenke, showing the 6-man committee was influenced by the other owners rather than vice-versa. Plus Kroenke’s plan was superior with more features, very similar to the L.A. Live area around Staples center. That Stadium will likely host the Super Bowl soon after it’s built.

Also,  CBSSports NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported that the owners didn’t want the Raiders in L.A. Corporate sponsors feared the violence Raiders fans displayed there in the ’80s and ’90s. So the owners took care of Spanos, giving him the option to go in with Kroenke while using the better plan.
