The NFL is a ride that not too many men have the privilege of getting on in their respective life times. So despite what others say you should do, you should stay on that ride until the wheels fall off. It’s not like your going to have an opportunity to get on a ride anything like that for the rest of your life.
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has had a heck of a ride and he has yet to declare his intent for 2016. Pittsburgh Steelers OLB James Harrison, also in his late thirties, has been up against that decision this offseason. But Harrison, has declared that he plans on playing next year at age 38.
Bill Parise, Harrison’s agent, told ESPN, “He’s under contract for one more year. We plan to honor that.” If you look beyond his age, Harrison was a productive player, making the most of his time on the field with five sacks and an interception in only one start in 2015.
Pro Football Focus has him rated as the 14th best edge-defender in the NFL for the 2015 season. And when you look at the fact that he’s willing to play for just a $1.25 million base salary makes him easy to keep around. The Steelers have some young talent on their defensive front-7 and Harrison will be a big help to their development.
And all the while he can remain a situational player this year.
Ride it until the wheels fall off James!
