Florida’s Kelvin Taylor Scouting Report

Kelvin Taylor is an undersized running back prospect who makes an impact with his quickness. He’ll need to find a role in the NFL as a change-of-pace back who can work to the edge and on quick-hitting runs up the middle. There’s room at the next level for a player like Taylor, but it might be on a limited basis.

The issue with Taylor’s game is that his lack of size and bulk hinder his ability to hold up in pass protection. He struggles to anchor after contact and doesn’t use proper technique. Taylor is often pushed into the face of the quarterback or completely misses his assignment.

This inability to help protect the quarterback isn’t ideal for a running back who will likely need to make his impact on third down. Taylor isn’t going to get a chance to be an every-down back because he doesn’t have the power to pick up yards after contact.

He’s a scat-back who uses his shiftiness and speed to gain yardage. Taylor does a good job of stopping and starting while awaiting his blocks to set up. However, he tends to get in a little bit of trouble because he’ll dance in the hole longer than necessary.

Taylor needs to make improvements with is pass protection skills if he wants to land on a roster and stick. There are too many veteran running backs in the league who can be trusted to protect the quarterback that will challenge Taylor for a roster spot.
