BYU’s Bronson Kaufusi Scouting Report.

Bronson Kaufusi is a long and athletic defensive end prospect. He flashes the ability to get after the quarterback by working around the edge. His overall draft stock will be tied more to his potential than production while at BYU.

Kaufusi length is his best asset as it gives him the ability to quickly engage the blocker. However, he’s too inconsistent with his hand usage and lacks the upper body strength to deliver a jolt. Kaufusi needs to hit the weight room and commit to gaining inside hands.

His questionable strength causes an issue when he’s asked to stack and shed against the run. He can get driven off the line of scrimmage by more powerful offensive linemen. Kaufusi also needs to improve his awareness and ability to locate the football.

Too often, he takes poor angles and will attack way from the play. He needs to work on his reads and using his height to see over the blockers.

Kaufusi is a better straight line athlete than someone capable of winning with lateral quickness. However, he shows enough balance to bend and flatten around the edge. His ability to generate a consistent pass rush depends on his snap awareness and that bend.

He has an average burst off the line, but nothing that separates him from the pack. This is why it’s so important for him to get stronger and improve his ability to play the run. Kaufusi just isn’t going to generate enough pressure to allow teams to overlook his shortcomings.
