California’s Jared Goff Scouting Report.

Jared Goff is a cerebral quarterback who knows how to work through his progressions. He has a knack for quickly locating the open target and delivering an accurate football. Despite playing in California’s spread attack, Goff showed the ability to make NFL type throws.

His strong ball placement is thanks to his commitment to tying his eyes, shoulders and feet together as he goes through his progressions. This keeps him balanced at all times and always ready to release the football.

More from With the First Pick

Goff has a smooth and fluid throwing motion that doesn’t feature any wasted action. His pocket presence is another asset as he has the feel to take a small step up in the pocket to avoid the rush. He also features the toughness to stand in the pocket despite knowing he’ll take a big hit.

The concerns surrounding Goff’s game is his slight frame and lack of elite arm strength. Goff has a long and linear build that needs more bulk. The more bulk he can add to his frame the easier it will be for him to handle the physical nature of the NFL.

Goff’s arm strength is good enough to make all the necessary NFL throws. However, the ball doesn’t explode out of his hand and there are some sideline throws that lack enough zip. His mechanics are going to be a key to his success as he’ll need to step into all his throws and drive off that back foot.

I could see some teams that play the majority of their games in harsh weather concerned about his ability to drive the ball through the air.

He reminds me a lot of Teddy Bridgewater when he entered the league in that he wins with his accuracy and quick decision making.
