Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott Scouting Report.

Dak Prescott features a solidly built frame and average size for the quarterback position. He is a balanced athlete who can hurt a defense with both his arm and legs. There are a lot of similarities between his and Russell Wilson’s.

Prescott has a powerful throwing arm with the ability to quickly get the ball out of his hand. His commitment to squaring his body to his target gives him good overall accuracy and ball placement. He steps into his throws generating good zip to all levels of the field.

His hard work has helped him improve his deep ball where he’s able to deliver a nice bucket pass.

Mississippi State’s offense featured a lot of designed quarterback runs. Prescott’s athleticism allows him to be effective in that type of attack as does his ability to protect himself. He knows when to get down and avoid the big hit. His thick frame also plays a role as it’s more suited to hold up to the extra contact.

Prescott needs to do a better job handling pressure as he tends to stare at the rusher. This leads to him remaining flat footed in the pocket and a high number of sacks. He must develop an understanding on when it’s ok to just throw the ball away.

This is one of the major differences between Wilson and Prescott. Wilson had a better understanding of running a traditional offensive attack. His time at Wisconsin gave him the opportunity to go through progressions and understand different route concepts.

It’s going to take a little bit of time for Prescott to learn a pro-style offense which will require him to make quicker reads. However, the physical tools are present for him to develop into a good starter at the next level.
