Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott Scouting Report

Ezekiel Elliott is an elite running back prospect who has a chance to quickly establish himself as one of the best runners in the NFL. He’s a well-rounded player who’s capable of impacting the game in several areas. His versatility is one of the keys to his draft stock and a reason why he may come off the board within the first 15 picks.

As a runner, Elliott keeps a low pad level and runs with a purpose. His balance and size help him routinely pick up yards after initial contact. He does a good job setting up his blocks while also showing the ability to take what the defense gives him.

Elliott isn’t just a power runner as he also features the speed to break off long runs. His ability to outpace defenders makes him a true home-run threat.

Offensive coordinators love players like Elliott because he can stay on the field in every situation. This is because of his ability as a blocker and pass catcher out of the backfield. Elliott isn’t afraid to take on blitzing linebackers or a free rusher.

He’s able to anchor after contact thanks to his wide base and overall strength. There aren’t many rookie running backs who enter the league with Elliott’s skills as a pass protector. This will help him make an immediate impact.

Elliott also features reliable hands and is capable of picking up yards after the catch. This is a true 3-down player who has the talent to be the focal point of an offense. We’ve seen talented running backs like Todd Gurely come into the league and immediately become the most important part of a team’s offensive attack.
