NFL Draft Scout 2016: Robert Nkemdiche
Which category does he belong in?
Each player with blemishes like this coming into the NFL falls in to one of two categories. He’s either a young guy that made a mistake and will learn or he has a sickness (addiction) he may never get over. The guys over at Bleacher Report were quick to put him in (addiction) Gregory’s category but that’s not necessarily the case.
Gregory failed multiple drug test while at Nebraska and couldn’t stop long enough to pass at the combine. That should tell you that at this point in his life, marijuana is more important to him than anything. So it should be of no surprise that he’s already been suspended for using marijuana in the NFL.
Arizona Cardinals defensive back Tyrann Mathieu admitted at his combine to failing 10 drug tests. That sent his draft stock into the second round but he has gone on to become one of the best DBs in the NFL. Then you have Shane Ray, who was supposed to be a top-10 pick, fall to No. 23 overall because he was cited for possession of marijuana three days before the draft.
Playing behind Demarcus Ware, he’s gone in and done well with his opportunities while keeping his nose clean so far. Nkemdiche got in trouble for possession Ray, linking the two closer together. Neither of the two were suspended in college so neither tested positive for marijuana more than once, making them reachable, unlike Gregory.
