Alabama’s A’Shawn Robinson Scouting Report

A’Shawn Robinson is a massive defensive line prospect who excels at dominating at the point of attack. He uses a combination of size, quickness and strength to make an impact. One intriguing thing with Robinson is that he’s only 20-years old and still developing.

NFL evaluators tend to lean towards prospects who have upside and room to grow. Robinson’s age puts him squarely in that category. The fact that he’s already a very good football player only increases his value and what makes him a potential top-15 pick.

Robinson makes his impact by controlling the line of scrimmage and stuffing the run. He routinely gains inside hand placement which allows him to use his upper body strength to stack and shed. His solid short-area burst helps him make plays away from his frame once he disengages.

He also features the ability to occupy blockers which allows the linebacker behind him to cleanly flow to the ball. Robinson is a versatile defender who can fit in either a 3-4 or 4-3 attack.

The one area of his game that is lacking is his ability to generate pressure on the quarterback. Robinson wasn’t asked to penetrate the pocket much while at Alabama, but his workout numbers speak to that part of his game developing in the future.

Robinson has good quickness for someone with his size which could unlock some pass-rush ability if that’s what his new team plans.

The combination of production, upside and raw skills makes Robinson one of the more attractive players in the draft. He’s ready to step in from day one and help against the run, but also features the potential to develop into much more.
