Like the Milli Vanilli song goes, “It’s a tragedy for me to see the dream is over!” Yes the pipe dream I had about Marshawn Lynch coming home to be an Oakland Raider was officially put to rest. Being the conspiracy theorist and huge fan of Lynch that I am, I jumped on the NBC story of Lynch not filing his retirement papers to possibly make the Seattle Seahawks cut him.

But Lynch filed those papers and went to the Seahawks facility to get the rest of his things Thursday. And the Seahawks followed up by placing the former running back on the reserve/retired list. So the announcement of his retirement on social media back in February turned out to be legitiment.

I won’t apologize that I wanted Lynch to somehow make his way back to Oakland to play for the Raiders. I actually wish more that he was still playing than I wish he was going to the Raiders. But  with the injuries Lynch battled through last season, his body was breaking down so to calling it quits was a good call.

In nine seasons in the NFL, Lynch rushed for 9,112 yards and scored 74 touchdowns. The Cal product was the No. 12 overall pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2007 draft before being traded to Seattle in 2010. And it was there that he became “Beastmode”, carrying the Seahawks to two Super Bowls.

I hope to see Lynch in Canton, Ohio’s Hall of Fame when all is said and done.

Goodbye Beastmode!

Enjoy your retirement!
